Mobile Money & Banking Blog
Netbanker, a great blog dedicated to online banking has decided to create a new, separate blog to track the evolving mobile banking and payments sector given the amount of material they are generating on mobile financial services alone.
The new blog is called Mobile Money & Banking. Jim Bruene, founder and publisher at Netbanker says the following about mobile banking and payments:
…we believe it’s an important, once-in-a-decade change in financial services delivery…We believe that mobile banking and payments are where online banking was in the mid-90s, about to jump from a nice-to-have to must-have status.

Some are questioning whether mobile payments really are such a revolutionary development. Katy Jacob, research specialist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, wonders in Are Mobile Payments the Smart Cards of the Aughts? whether mobile payments are just an overly hyped trend (like smart cards in the 1990’s). One thing I liked in this paper was the open question at the end about whether there is a “killer” mobile application, and is it financial services (the fact the question even needs to be posed suggests it is not all that apparent) - specifically, is (or will) mobile financial services be a “must have”?
