Efficient Use of Airline Loyalty Programs
Rob Carrick at the Globe and Mail writes about how Air Canada’s Aeroplan and Air Miles will encourage you to do redeem points for non-travel items. Why this trend towards offering non-travel rewards by airline loyalty programs? Because it makes good business sense.
The amount of spending required to redeem points for non-flight rewards vs. free flights is significantly higher, sometimes over twice the amount, according to the article. So while it is in the consumers interest to save the points for flights, it is in the loyalty program’s best interest to offer increasingly more non-travel merchandise on which to spend your points. Great article!
